Describe the company – the elevator pitch …
At Orbirental, our purpose is to simplify the vacation management process and increase rental revenue for all property owners and property management companies. We have done this by building an innovative and open technology platform that automates most of the work, helping hosts focus on hospitality rather than operations.
How are you different?
We believe we are different to other, older, vacation rental management software solutions in four main ways.
Firstly, Orbirental provides a world class user experience. most software that exists today in this space was created over 20 years ago, and hasn’t really changed since then unfortunately.
Secondly, and probably the most important difference, is that we have built an innovative workflow manager and backend technology called the “pipeline” (patent pending). The pipeline provides a unique visualization of the end-to-end booking cycle that is customizable to adapt to the agency’s business processes. The pipeline is powered by an automation engine that allows property management companies to put a large portion of their activity in auto-pilot.
Thirdly, at Orbirental, rather than attempting to build absolutely everything ourselves, we have built an end to end platform that integrates with best-of-breed services for many of our features. These include handling pricing and yield management, channel management, home automation, payment processing, accounting and a CRM.
Finally, Orbirental charges a monthly subscription fee based on the number of properties under management as well as the features needed by the particular PMC or owner. This enables the software to scale as the company scales, and is unlike other Vacation rental Management software providers which have a “take it or leave it” cost where you need to buy the entire software even though you may not need certain features.
Why will the company / product do well?
When Airbnb came along fuelling the emergence of the sharing economy, this brought with it a huge impact on the Vacation Rental market, and in particular, the management of vacation rental properties. There was an increase in COMPLEXITY in managing properties across different platforms, and increase in COMPETITION as more inventory came online. As such, TIME, and responding to time-driven events in a timely manner, has became an even more critical component of success. Finally, PRICE, and in particular, dynamically pricing properties based on demand and supply, has become even more important in order to ensure you’re still receiving enquiries for your property.
Responding to enquiries in a time-driven manner, implementing dynamic pricing and being able to manage and scale your business without increasing costs, will determine which PMCs are able to succeed in this new market. Critical to this is the software that PMCs and property owners use, and at Orbirental, we have solved this problem for them. We provide systemic process automation to streamline these key components, allowing PMCs to decrease operation costs and increase rental revenue.
Where are you based?
Orbirental headquarters are in San Francisco however we also have an office in New York.
When was the company launched?
We launched Orbirental in January 2016 however already have significant traction around the world.
What have been your biggest wins to date?
Orbirental already has over 2000 property owners using the platform, and property management companies from all over the world paying for our service.
We have integrated with best practice partners including Beyond Pricing, IglooHome and channel partners such as Tripping, MyBooking Pal, Rentals United and Leisure Link. Many more partnerships will be announced in the coming months.
What type of people (market segment) are you trying to attract to your product?
While Orbirental can be used by individual property owners right through to property management companies managing 1000 properties, the target market is The Traditional vacation rental agencies managing at least 20 properties, for which the current software solution does not address the challenges & opportunities of the sharing economy.
Also, Orbirental is a great property management solution for the new class of vacation rental companies (that have been built for the AirBnb economy) in need of technology to scale. These companies typically help people manage their vacation rental properties on their behalf – whether it be end to end management, or a particular part eg linen services.
Tell us about your team?
Stephan Osmont, Orbirental’s CEO and Founder has 15 years internet software experience as the co-founder and CTO at multiple funded startups. Stephan recently sold his company Intweetiv to PostPlanner, and also manages 4 of his own vacation properties.
Dean Kelly launched Zanui.com, one of Australia’s largest online furniture and homewares companies, as well as HeyLets, a global social travel App now in over 130 countries.

We are fortunate to have some exceptional advisors in Duncan Logan, who is the founder of Rocket Space in San Francisco, as well as the owners of Paris for Rent which is a luxury Parisian Vacation Rental company.
What are you long term plans for your product / company?
At Orbirental, we are OBSESSED with building a great product. We have just released a number of new features including (amongst other things) two-way calendar synchronisation, full automation and management of guest reviews, a public API, a partnership with Tripping. Our next release will include channel management which allows you to list your properties on all our partner channels, and then later a full accounting solution.
To date, all of our customers have discovered us and emailed requesting a demo after being frustrated with the software they are using. Whilst this is great, we will now be more active about customer acquisition and marketing as well.
Our end goal is to support all property owners and property management companies around the world, now matter how big or small.
What are your favourite tech gadgets?
Orbirental partners with a number of home automation companies to provide a seamless experience for both managers and guests. As such, we have become home-automation obsessed with companies like Igloo Home and Lock State sending us all of their gadgets to play with! Stephan manages his own properties using Orbirental so he gets to test out all their products Home Automation products and absolutely loves them.
What tech gadgets do you wish you could use to help you?
We would love to leverage some of the latest IOT (Internet of Things) technologies to help property managers further automate their activity.
Anything else you’d like to add / we should have asked?
Stephan has a heavy french accent and I have a heavy Australian accent…but somehow people seem to understand us. But it definitely sounds like the beginning of a joke – “2 Frenchmen and an Australian walk into a bar and launch a company…”
